Christmas Block of the Month - Students will receive two Alexandra original 8” Christmas appliqué patterns each month (kit optional).  The one-hour class will be a discussion of any special appliqué or special embroidery stitches/techniques that will be done on the blocks for the month. Appliqué, fuse or buttonhole your blocks. One 1 hour class each month $10.00.  1 session every month. $24.95. (includes class and kit)  Alexandra Henry.

Project Linus Quilts – Join us on the 3rd Wednesday of each month to make quilts for Project Linus.   Bring your machine and lunch and join us.

 

Quilter's Workout – "Workout" every Wednesday of the month at Quilt Country.  Come and sew in our spacious classroom, bring lunch and stay all day.  Bring your UFOs or a special project that you want to finish.  Invite your friends to come workout with you. 1 session each week. Saturday Buck-A-Block – Join us on the 1st Saturday of each month, beginning in February.  Stop by anytime of the day on that Saturday and pick up your block.  Step-by-step directions will be on display.  Each month a kit will be available in two color ways, batiks and 30s.  Registration fee $5 and monthly block fee is $1.  Kit includes fabric, directions and Thangles for each block. Block expansion and finishing kits available.

The Basics

 

Beginning BindingA beautiful binding is the “icing on the cake”.  Learn the traditional combination of machine and hand stitched binding, straight of grain vs. bias binding, the purpose of binding, and discuss types of decorative bindings.  Machine and book required.1 session.  $25.  Debbie Coates.

Hand Quilting - Have you ever wanted to learn how to make those tiny, neat hand-quilting stitches?  Alexandra will teach you the basics of the rocking method of hand quilting.    By the end of the class you will be amazed how beautiful your hand quilting is.  Class is good for beginners or for those who need a refresher in hand quilting.  There will also be a discussion of the various types of hand quilting batting.

Silk Ribbon Embroidery – Learn the basics of silk ribbon embroidery.  This technique is beautiful on quilts, pillows, and wall hangings, even postcards! 1 session. $25.  Alexandra Henry.

Quilting 101 – Quilting for beginning sewers.  This quick and easy machine-pieced quilt is a great introduction to quilting if you have little or no sewing experience.  Learn the basic skills of rotary cutting, sewing a straight ¼" seam, matching points and pressing seams.  The last class will cover information on turning your quilt top into a finished quilt.  Adults only, please.  Sewing machine in good, working condition with machine operating manual required for class.

Baltimore Album Quilt Class - On the last Sunday of each month join Barb and Teresa for a 12-month appliqué class to complete a Baltimore Album quilt. Color Class - Have you ever struggled with color and value in your quilts, or had a quilt lacking the visual “punch” you thought it would have?  Then this is the class for you.  Alexandra takes students through the mystery of color theory and how it applies to quilting.  This is a practical hands-on class through a series of exercises with color.  Students will be constructing a color reference book in this class.  1 session. $35. French Braid Quilts – This is a new twist to an old favorite.  It is a fast and easy project and has so many variations that you will not be able to do just one.  1 session. $35. Eileen Urbanek.

Half Log Cabin Quilts - Fun and easy to make, you can use 1½”, 2”, or, the popular, 2½” fabric strips.  I will provide directions for a lap sized quilt using Sharyn Craig’s techniques from her book, Half Log Cabin Quilts. These blocks are great scrappy or planned. This class is suitable for all levels of quilters.  $35. 2 sessions. Melissa Clark

Kaleidoscope Quilts – Using the kaleido-ruler; students will make a kaleidoscope quilt in one of two sizes.   This quilt is deceptive in that it looks difficult to do, but is easy to construct and has a wonderful secondary pattern flow. $35. Alexandra Henry.

Speed Rotary Cutting - Love to piece but hate to cut?  A class designed around an easier and faster method of cutting and sub-cutting strips.  Suitable for a beginner but handy for a more advanced quilter the class focuses on using the June Tailor Shape Cut Plus and a rotary cutter.  Class limit is four so be sure and book early.  $25.00 Debbie Coates.

Border Designs in Half the Time

(3-Hour Hands-on Class)

Freehand designs increase your quilting speed and remove the stress of having to be “perfect”! You’ll learn how to draw and stitch over 20 border designs by “eye” using quick, simple placement methods. These borders are fast and fun to do. You’ll also learn Dawn’s secrets for the quick, “15-minute” quilt turn so that you can do side borders easily without risking having fabric tucks on the back of the quilt. As quilters become more savvy, they insist on complex quilting. Learn how to use a straight edge ruler to create gridwork that you can fill with many design variations that Dawn will share with you. From diamond crosshatching to clematis leaves and tiny feathers, you’ll discover a whole new way to look at background quilting.
