CL-CSA: Children’s Sewing Academy
Description: This is a week camp experience for children ages 9-14. During the academy, children will learn the mechanics of a sewing machine, beginning concepts to learn how to sew (by hand and on a sewing machine). Daily, students will complete skill-building projects that they will bring home and “show off” their accomplishments. By the end of the week, students will accomplish the following skills: 1. Understanding the mechanics of a sewing machine. 2. Identify and explain the purpose of various sewing tools and supplies. 3. Understand how to thread a hand needle and complete some basic stitching that will be helpful in the future for hemming pants, sewing on buttons, etc. 4. Use of safe practices while using sewing tools. 5. Safe practices and use of an iron. 6. Read a pattern and understand how to follow pattern instructions. 7. Understand how to measure fabric, lay out pattern pieces and cut out the pattern. 8. Understand how to identify and correct sewing errors and learn that mistakes happen. The ultimate goal is for the students to have a positive experience learning to sew.

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned quilter, Tucker University and Studio 180 Design help you quilt smarter—not harder! Tucker University Freshman Year begins in January 2026 and will be held on the first Friday morning of each month from 10:30 to 1:30. Each “semester” lasts 6 months. Sign up for all of the classes or just one. Each class will focus on a specific tool required for that class. Class fee $45.00 per month. Students who register and pay for all 6 classes will receive a Tucker University notebook to keep all of their Design Sheets, Technique Sheets, tool directions, and class handouts in.
