Almost Alone Star Quilt Class Supply List Teacher: Amy Skinner email@example.com cell: 408-425-0221
This is a fun and easy jelly roll friendly quilt and I am sure you will be happy with your results. The quilt is made in four sections and we will focus on getting at least one of the four sections laid out so that you can get the technique and can easily finish on your own. I will give you tips for finishing the quilt and we will get your borders all set to go in class.
Sewing machine and basic sewing supplies (thread to match your fabric choices, pins, etc.)
Fabric for the throw size you will need (30) 2 1/2" strips that are dark enough to contrast well with your selection of background fabric. Get 3 yards of background because it is also your first border. Border fabric - the pattern calls for 1 3/4 yards for the border and 5/8 yard for the binding, but if your fabric is not directional and you would like to have long, continuous pieces to use for both your borders and binding, get 2 1/4 yards all in one cut.
The pattern calls for the Strip Tube Ruler. You can also use a 5 1/2" square, but most students seem to prefer the Strip Tube Ruler. Either one is fine.
Cozy Quilt Designs "Almost Alone Star" pattern, available at Quilt Country.
If your jelly roll/strip set has some lighter fabrics that are too close to the background fabric that you have chosen, then these are the ones to eliminate as you choose the 30 strips that you will use. I usually do not ask my students to do any work ahead of time, but for this class I am making an exception. Please have all of your fabric selected ahead of time and sew your 30 strips into 15 sets of two. Pair together two strips that contrast well and don't put too much time into matching them up, there is no wrong way to do it. Sew them together so that you wind up with 15 sets that are about 4 1/2" "tall" by the 42"-ish length of the strips. Press the seams in one direction and pack them up to bring to class! You do not have to do anything else. We will cut the background fabric and do all of the other steps in class. If you have any questions about what to bring or my directions on what to do ahead of time, please reach out to me before class. I work at the store on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday most weeks and am usually working at least one day on the weekends. Bring your lunch or you can order delivery. Looking forward to seeing you in class!!
