Quilting 101 Supply List
Must Haves: Bring to Class
- Rotary Cutter - 45mm
- Acrylic Ruler - 6 ½" x 24"
- Scissors (for thread)
- Fine pins (glass head or flat)
- Seam ripper
- Purple Thang
- Best Press/Starch - small container
- Sewing machine you know how to use
- Sewing machine manual (or website from which you can download it)
- Sewing Machine Seam Guide Template (small ruler with seam allowances marked)
- 50 weight cotton sewing thread (Aurifill, preferably) in a neutral color - beige or gray
- Two pre-wound bobbins
- Sewing machine needles - size 80/20 or 75/11
Microtex/Sharp - used for Batiks
Universals - cottons
- Sewing machine presser feet
General purpose foot (usually the foot on your machine)
¼" foot (Quarter-Inch foot) - used to sew a ¼" seam, if used correctly
Walking foot - use this for the actual quilting
- Fusible batting: Heirloom Cotton Batting, Crib size
- Quilting Chalk/Clover Chaco Liner (white)
- Tape measure
- Safety pins
Must Haves: Keep at Home
- Self-healing Cutting Mat: 18" x 24" or larger (store it flat)
- Best-Press/Starch
- Iron
- Ironing board
- Sewing machine oil
- Oil brush
Nice to Have: Add Over Time
- Acrylic Rulers (in order of usefulness):

2 ½" x 18" (or 2 ½" x 24")

- Wool Pressing Mat
- Wheeled sewing machine carrier
- Felt-backed tablecloth - you can use this as a design wall
- True Grips (for the back of rulers - grips the fabrics & prevents rulers from slipping)
- Sewing Edge - Reusable Vinyl Stops (Marci Baker brand) - If you don't know how to use a ¼" foot or if you don't have a ¼" foot, these are invaluable.)
